Myrrh for the Holiday Season

Myrrh, Frankincense  and many other oils have been used since ancient times. They hold a special place in the Spiritual, Religious, Ceremonial and Healing history of the ‘Old world’ and the East.  I would like to start with sharing some information regarding Frankincense for us right now in modern times!

Myrrh essential oil is a great favourite of mine  - for many applications:

•  Myrrh can support dry skin and a great approach is  to stir a few drops of Myrrh oil into the doTERRA Hydrating Cream to amplify it’s nourishing benefits or into a cream of your choice. I use this approach as my daily turn to hand cream!

• Apply a drop of Myrrh to the middle of my tongue when I feel a scratchy throat. I mix the Myrrh drop with my saliva by trolling my tongue then I swallow.
I like to alternate this application with Tea Tree essential oil.  Apply every few minutes if necessary. This application has kept me in great shape for years!

• A drop of Myrrh essential oil in a cup of warm honey sweetened water is a favourite tea for many singers and public speakers.  Very soothing.

• Myrrh is highly regarded for dental challenges involving the gums and loose teeth. Apply topically with a finger at least twice a day and gently rub. Of course it is best diluted with Olive oil or Coconut oil. This application is a favourite for personal use with my nurse friends.

It is highly anti-microbial and historically was used in Egypt to anoint the umbilical cord after birth

MY favourite  personalised Hand & Body Skin Cream Recipe
This makes a great cream Perfume gift.

• 125 mls +  doTERRA Unscented Hand and Body lotion
• 8-10 drops  Myrrh
• 15 drops  Lavender
• 10 drops  Pink Grapefruit
• 3-4 drops  Ylang Ylang

Mix all together well  in a dark glass or opaque glass containers.  You can adjust the number of drops to achieve a personalised aromatic combination.  Store in a cool place.  I have been making this blend in the base unscented doTERRA Hand and Body lotion  or  indeed the doTERRA Body Butter for many years.

NOTE: I love to recycle the doTERRA Hydrating Face Cream jars. They clean up perfectly through the dishwasher and the label peels off very easily.

Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh

Everyone who has heard the Nativity story will know that the newborn baby Jesus was given Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh by the fabled Three Wise Men.

And we now realise from modern research that each has many Evidence based applications in human health and wellbeing.

Frankincense and myrrh have been used in medicine throughout history, and there are many research docs on PUBMED  and other sites attesting to their efficacy in modern times.

Some more great uses:

  • Add one to two drops to toothpaste for added cleansing benefits
  • Diffuse to create a balanced atmosphere
  • Add to your moisturizer to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Add one to two drops to a couple ounces of water and gargle for a quick mouth rinse
  • Apply to chest for respiratory support
  • Diffusewith Frankincense and Lavender at bedtime
  • Diffuse to create a sense of calm while meditating
  • Apply to pulse pointswhen feeling anxious and disconnected
  • Apply topically on skin irritations
  • Apply to abdomen for digestive support.

Have fun experimenting with Myrrh!
